CABRAQIMERA

“Hybrid between lion, goat and snake; spitting fire, the chimera seduces and kills the one who’s attracted to her. The best way to atrocity is to surprise her in her deepest haunts.”

CABRAQIMERA proposes a line of investigation and creation of the artist Catarina Miranda, about an explosive contemporaneity, simultaneously physical and technological, accelerationist.

This dance project, developed for stage is a composition for a quartet of performers on roller-skates, aproaching states of detonation and death drive.

Carl Jung has described passionate longing — the libido — as two different directions:

“it is the power that beautifies everything  and in certain cases, destroys everything. Often, one cannot recognize the source of this creative power’s destructive quality.”

Seeking to define an axis between the occult interior and a skin contour, in this dynamic dichotomy the Body is seen as a cognitive entity, emitter—receiver of a multi-apparitional flux of visions.

These hypnagogic landscapes are articulated around the interest on Post-humanism, Death Drive, Systems Theory, Science Fiction and Post-Atomic World.

Scientific atrocity — complex body

The archetypal dimension of the gesture is inspired by the image of a scientific aberration, a chimera, combined with the use of prostheses (roller-skates), moving costumes (with integrated engines) with extra hands and faces, in order to access genres of physicality that will allow levels of strangeness, risk and speed on stage, projecting the body to an extreme otherness and opening the territory of fiction.

The use of roller-skates is also an allegoric use of the stage shoes “cothurnus” used in Greek and Roman tragic drama, in order to dignify the performers into semi-gods, with the task to mediate the world between human and divine dimensions.
